While
many Nigerians are not satisfied with the performances of President Muhammadu
Buhari, the Thailand people are accusing him of responsible for the collapse of
rice mills in their country. The Thailand Ambassador to Nigeria who visited the
Nigerian Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh in February lamented that
since the massive production of rice in Nigeria as encouraged by the
administration of President Buhari, his country is suffering from job losses.
Thailand
Ambassador said, the collapse of rice mills has increased unemployment rate
from 1.2 percent to 4 percent. If you title this report as: “Lamentation of
Thailand People” you will score an excellent mark. Recall that Thailand is one
of the world largest producers of rice.
Before
President Muhammadu Buhari came to power on May 29, 2015, Nigeria was depending
solely on rice importation from Thailand and few other countries. In fact,
agriculture was neglected in Nigeria, and the previous administrations did
nothing to salvage the situation or encourage farming.
