How Police Officer caused his own untimely Death

Sergeant Chijioke Okorie is not alive to tell his own side of the story, so we in the Mighty Voice have to exercise caution in writing what really caused his death. His death was alleged to have been caused by a mob attack when he allegedly shot into a crowd and a bullet killed an innocent guest of Gold C hotel.

According to the story published in the Punch newspaper of Tuesday, April 24, there was a fight in the Golden C hotel at Amandugba in Isu Local Government Area of Imo State and a distress call was made to the Police. The Policemen got to the hotel during the fracas and the deceased sergeant without wasting time shot into the crowd. A bullet hit a guest of the hotel identified as Ojiegbe Azuoku  who died on the spot.

The unprofessional action of the police led the youths to react by attacking Sergeant Okorie who fired the gun. The mob applied jungle justice as they hacked the policeman to death. The ugly incident happened on Sunday, April 22, 2018.

The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Sp Andrew Enwerem. The spokesman said, the State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike “had ordered investigation into the case”.

Mighty Voice is not in support of people taking law into their hands, however, any sane person should know that it is crazy to shoot into a crowd of living people, knowing that it will result in the death of someone. The police are trained to maintain laws and order and they are expected as much as possible to use a minimum force to quell any riot. Shooting to kill should be the last resort and not the ultimate aim.
