Mrs. Toyin Akintayo, a 42 year old mother of Yusuf Azeez has said the killing of her son has brought relief to her and other members of the family. Yusuf, 23 years old was killed when a bullet hit him in the thigh while struggling to collect a gun from Quadri Adesina, a vigilance group commander in the Oke-Aro area of Ogun State.
According to the report which was published in the Punch Newspaper of Friday, November 11 edition, Yusuf threatened to kill his mother when he returned home and found out that the mother had not prepared food for the evening. He asked the mother, and the woman explained that she had no money to buy kerosene into the stove. The mother then gave him N200, the only money she had and pleaded with him to use it to buy food that evening.
Yusuf who was not satisfied with the money, broke a bottle and threatened to stab his mother, but the woman managed to escape to a nearby vigilante station to report to them.
The vigilance group led by the commander, Quadri Adesina followed the woman to the house. On sighting the vigilantes, Yusuf became angrier and violently grabbed the gun which Adesina was holding. He wrestled with the man and tried to forcefully take control of the gun, but unfortunately the gun discharged accidentally and a bullet hit him. Yusuf was confirmed dead at a hospital where he was rushed to for treatment.
The mother said she had tried her best to make Yusuf a great person by enrolling him in different high schools, but her son refused to go to school and had become a drop-out. The woman tried a handiwork for him. The deceased son learned barbing and the mother said she had paid N85,000.00 for a shop, but the deceased son refused to go to the shop until the rent expired. The mother said, her son was a trouble maker as he used to fight everywhere he went. The mother of Yusuf said, “His death is a relief to me and the family”.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested a 48 year old Quadri Adesina whose gun exploded and killed Yusuf, and he is as of the time of this report in detention at the Agbado Police Station, Ogun State.
