The cost of following Jesus

A certain man came to Jesus and said, he had decided to forsake all and follow him. This man said he would follow Jesus wherever he went. Jesus told the man the cost of following him. Jesus let the man know that he had nothing to make him comfortable. Animals have holes and birds have nests, but Jesus told the man he had no house at all.
Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. Luke 9:58

The bible did not record the reply of the man, and it meant that the man didn’t mind following Jesus and he was ready to bear all the sufferings. The man was ready for hardships in this narrow way.  Jesus then turned to another man who didn’t decide yet whether to forsake all and follow him. The man agreed but said he should be permitted to go back home to bury his father who was still in the mortuary. But Jesus made it clear to him that the decision to follow him doesn’t accept excuse.
Jesus said unto him, let the dead bury the dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
And Jesus said to him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. Luke 9:60

Jesus again invited a third person who also gave an excuse. This third man wanted to go home and inform this people first.

And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. Luke 9:61

But Jesus does not want anything to hinder or stop a decision to follow Him. We are qualified for the kingdom of God if we genuinely forsake all that is in the world and look not back to seek the things of the world.

And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. (Luke 9:62)
