Text: Proverbs 4:7 it reads: "Wisdom is the principal thing: therefore get wisdom and with all thy getting get understanding" The key words in our text are wisdom, principal and understanding. Principal means most important or chief. Therefore our text can also read: wisdom is the most important thing or the chief thing. Please note that the Bible doesn't say: wisdom is one of the important things or one of the chief things, rather it says, wisdom is the most important thing.
Note again that wisdom is the most important thing NOT money, long life, love, faith, hope, prophecy, miracle, tongue e.t.c. if we agree with the writer of Proverbs 4:7 that wisdom is the principal thing; what then is wisdom? What are those things that make wisdom the principal or most important thing? Do we equally prioritize wisdom in our individual life, family and ministry? Do we seek wisdom before embarking on any venture? How do we know if we are operating in wisdom? Read Proverbs 4 , 5, 6,7 and 8.
Self Assessment Assignment:
1. Give at least three Bible definitions of wisdom and understanding.
2. More specifically, can wisdom be truly more important than love? Give reasons for your answer.
3. Give at least three reasons why wisdom is the most important thing.
4. If you think that the writer of Proverbs is wrong in declaring that wisdom is the most important thing, tell us what you think should be the principal thing and support your view with scriptures.
