The Whole Duty of Man to God

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of manEcclesiastes 12:13

King Solomon begins Chapter 12 of the book of Ecclesiastes with admonition that we should accept God as our Father and keep obeying His commandments and statutes early in life. The relevance of this advice in our time is that we should accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour and remain holy without postponing the decision to a time in future. Don’t say to yourself that ‘I am too young to give my life to Jesus Christ’. Don’t imagine in your heart that you have many years to live, and choose to go for a life of pleasures.

It is advisable to know God and accept His Son Jesus Christ from your youth up ‘while evil days come not’ for you don’t know when you will die. You never know how long you will live in this world. Man is spirit; death is inevitable and the last day of man is never known to them. Except those who sold their souls to the devil, and are informed of how long they will live, nobody knows when and how he will die. This life is short, therefore living in sin is dangerous. Not everyone will live as long as he desires.

It is certain that man being made of the dust shall return to the dust, while the spirit which can never die will return to the Creator who shall decide where he will spend eternity. O what a ‘vanity of vanities'! King Solomon says:

Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:7

Unfortunately not all spirits shall return to God as there is a hell waiting for those who lived careless life and refused to accept Christ Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. To be saved we should heed the advice of Solomon which he has advised thus:

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Ecc.12:13

God knows all our works, whether good or bad, and at the appointed time, all our works shall be judged accordingly.

For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Ecc.12:14
