Solomon was anointed king of Israel to succeed his
father David. Solomon sacrificed a thousand rams to God and this pleased Him.
God appeared to Solomon in a dream at night and told him to ask for whatever he
wanted God to do for him. Just ask for anything you desire in life, O Solomon.
That meant a signed blank cheque was given to Solomon, leaving the amount for
him to fill in.
And the King went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon the altar. In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee. 1kings 3:4-5
But to the astonishment of God, Solomon asked for
wisdom and understanding to be able to govern the people of Israel well. Just
wisdom…don’t you need money? What of the lives of your enemies? What of long
life? Don’t you want to be popular and famous, so that kings from other nations
would hear about you and come to pay homage to you?
Give therefore
thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern
between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? 1kings 3:9
Suppose Solomon asked for riches, he would have
laboured hard to get riches. God would have blessed him through labour. We
should take the instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ concerning what we desire
in life and how we ask God to provide for us.
Jesus says we should seek first the kingdom of God and
its righteousness, and then all we need may be added to us. Note the word ‘’added’’
used by Jesus as against the word ‘’provided’’. We are commanded to be heavenly
minded. All our eyes can see in this world are nothing compared to the
treasures made available for us in heaven. Satan controls the minds of the rich
and deceive many into believing that the world is a good place. Never think the
rich people are happier than you.
Seeking for financial breakthrough by going to
different churches is a waste of time. Stop asking for prosperity, instead, ask
God to bless the work of your hand. You must have a job for God to bless; and
for God to make you prosperous you must be full of praises to Him. Please allow
nothing to trouble your mind.
King Solomon did not ask for riches, but here is what God
says to him:
‘’And I have
given thee that which thou hast not ask, both riches, and honour, so that there
shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.’’ 1Kings 3:13
God does not make people rich or prosperous because
they pray for it. In fact praying for riches and prosperity amounts to asking for
a heavy task which Jesus cautions us in the following words:
Lay not up
for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and
where thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not
break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be
also. Matthew 6:19-21
What pleases God is our rich in faith. Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God
chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he
hath promised them that love him? James 2:5
If the reason for accepting Jesus Christ or becoming a
Christian is to be rich, please take my advice that you are in a wrong
religion.

Great message. I am blessed.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much. God bless you Sir.
ReplyDeleteGreat message sir. I want to add that asking for riches may not be important but is necessary so as to help promote the work of God.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. We need money in order to sponsor people for missionary work, evangelism and to promote the gospel. But asking for riches to satisfy personal lust is sin and James has cautioned that in the Book of James. Thanks for your contribution.
