Central truth:
But seek ye first the kingdom of
God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew
6:33). ALL THESE THINGS in our text is tantamount to GOD's BLANK CHEQUES.
Congratulations as your own blank cheque awaits you now in Jesus name, Amen.
In part 1 of this article, we noted that what to do to earn
God's blank cheques are many in the Bible. I therefore pray for deeper revelation
of God's Word in Jesus name. Amen. From there, we looked extensively at
evangelism in that study. We also defined blank cheque as a signed cheque with
the amount fields left empty for the recipients to write in any amount they
wish. Please read part 1 of this article on this same blog.
In this part 2 of our study, we shall be exploring a Genuine
Heart for God. A genuine heart for God that culminates in putting God and the
righteousness of his kingdom first ultimately put believers in command of God's
abundant resources. A careful examination of our text (Matthew 6:33) clearly
reveal something far greater or at least equal in effect to a blank cheque. The
"ALL THESE THINGS" in our text equals in effect to God's blank cheques.
What God is saying here is simple and clear but requires our good
understanding.
A heart for God that makes one to seek first the kingdom of
God and his righteousness commit God to add to his life ALL THESE THINGS that
others are dying to get. "ALL THESE THINGS" (blank cheques)
inexhaustibly and positively rich includes Joy, peace, long life, sound health,
knowledge of the truth, salvation of your soul, strength, favour, honour,
prosperity, godly children to mention but few. If a genuine heart for God can
give us God's blank cheques, then a sound knowledge of a heart for God is
vital. What then is a heart for God that can move Him to issue blank cheques?
A heart for God simply means loving God wholeheartedly. It
also means putting God and the righteousness of his kingdom first and loving
him above all things including your own dear life. Loving God with all your
heart sounds cheap on the surface, as it is assumed that no believer in his
right senses will hate God. But giving God any other position apart from FIRST
is synonymous with not loving him.
For your love for God to be acceptable, you must place God first
and above all things in your life. In Matthew 10:37 Jesus speaking and he says
"He that loveth father or mother
more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than
me is not worthy of me". In Luke 14:26 "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, and wife
and children and brothers and sisters, yes and his own life also, he cannot be
my disciple". What God is
saying here is very simple. He is saying, ‘I the Lord your God rejects second
position in absolute term’. He is not saying you should hate your family and
yourself, he is simply saying you should make him first in all things.
You either make God first or disregard Him because He
wouldn't accept second position from anyone. Please note that if your love for
God is secondary to anything at all, then you are not eligible to be His
disciple let alone earn His blank cheques. In Matthew 22:37-38 "Jesus said unto him, Thou shall love
the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and
with all thy soul and with all thy mind. This is the first and great
commandment".
I would like us to understand that loving God wholeheartedly,
that is, putting him first in all things is God's command that ultimately put
us in command of his resources. In Proverbs 23:26, ‘My son, give me your heart and let your eyes observe my ways. God
is saying here, if I can have your heart, then you can have my resources at
your disposal. In John 14:21, Jesus says, He
that has my commandments, and keep them, he it is that loveth me; and he that
loveth me shall be loved of my father, and I will love him and manifest myself
to him.
God is ever willing to work through us if only we can
surrender our hearts to Him. He sees us through our hearts; He is knocking at
the door of our hearts, our salvation must include believing also in our hearts
for it to be acceptable to him. God can hardly do a thing with a man without
the involvement of the hearts. Therefore, the importance of the heart of man in
relation to God's dealings with him cannot be overemphasised. I assure you
that, I will examine how to develop a heart for God and how to sustain it in
Part 3 of this article.
