Rules for Holy Living for all Christians

Apostle Paul has set a standard for holy living for Christians. Christians indeed should not be interested in the mundane things. We should consider the things awaiting us in heaven and stop running after earthly things that give temporary satisfaction.

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:1-2

We should be morally upright. We should ‘let the word of God dwell in us richly’. No covetousness which Paul equates to idolatry. We should shun inordinate affection, greed and lasciviousness.

We ‘should put off anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of our mouths’. We should not lie at all. We should remember that Jesus says all liars are children of the devil and they will suffer destruction like devil who is their father.

We should imbibe the spirit of forbearance. That is, we should be tolerant and sensitive to the welfare of one another. We should forgive and bear no grudge against any person. We should purge ourselves of evil thoughts. Remember Jesus says any person who doesn’t forgive another will not be forgiven by God.

If ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 5:14-15

We should put on charity. We should be hospitable, kind, generous in our everyday dealings with people irrespective of their religion, ethnicity, colour and race. We should teach and admonish ourselves ‘in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs’.

We should do everything, whether in word or deed, ‘’all in the name of the Lord Jesus'. We should be thankful to God in the name of Jesus Christ. Let us heed and keep this admonition from Paul:

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering, Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another.  Colossians 3:12-13a

  1. This Bible based article is great. You pointed out from the Scripture what we should do and what we should not do in order to be holy. More understanding in Jesus name. By Pastor Raphael Idoko
