Dr. Zakir Naik was invited to a debate in Egypt and decided to fly there on a first-class ticket. Upon arrival, he was greeted by his host, who brought him to the venue, a state-of-the-art auditorium equipped with the latest technology.
During his speech, Dr. Naik said passionately,
"Brothers and sisters, we must avoid adopting Western values and practices! They are corrupt and lead us away from the righteous path. We don’t need anything from the West. Islam is sufficient for us, just as it was during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)."
As the audience nodded, a young man in the crowd raised his hand and asked,
"Dr. Naik, may I ask how you traveled to Egypt?"
Dr. Naik responded, "I flew here, of course."
The young man continued, "Was the airplane invented in the Muslim world or the West?"
Dr. Naik hesitated.
The young man pressed further, "And this microphone you’re speaking through, these cameras broadcasting your message, the cellphone and watch you use, the internet and social media, the building we’re sitting in—are these not all products of Western technology?
If we are to reject everything from the West, shouldn’t you have ridden here on a camel and spoken to us in an open desert?"
The audience erupted in laughter, and Dr. Naik quickly changed the subject, but the young man’s point lingered in the air.
