The Quran verse that cracked my Islamic foundation: Surah 3:55

This verse addresses the end of Jesus's earthly ministry, where Allah tells him He will "take him," raise him to Himself, and purify him from disbelievers
It reads: “O Jesus, I will take you and raise you to myself.”
When I was Muslim, I skimmed that verse. Then it hit me: Raised from what? If Jesus didn’t die, why does he need to be raised?
No other prophet is described this way. They died. They were buried.
But Jesus?
Taken. Raised. Exalted. Declared alive.
It follows that, you don’t exalt a backup prophet. You exalt a King. Jesus even says it in John 12:32. And even Islamic theology admits, He’s still alive, coming back to judge the world, called the Messiah… but never explains why.
So ask yourself:
If God raised Him… what does that say about the cross?
The Gospel says He died, was buried, and rose again.
And this verse points to the same reality:
God did not leave Him in the grave.
You don’t raise someone unless they were laid down. You don’t exalt someone who failed. You exalt the one who finished it all.
