"FINE BARA": DEEPER LIFE'S TECHNIQUES OF EXTORTING WORSHIPPERS.
When people talk about extortion and flamboyance in denominational churches, they almost always point at COZA, Mr. Korede Komaiya, Mr. Oyedepo, etc.
They talk about the pastors selling bottle oil for five thousand naira, hawking anointed handkerchiefs, or charging fees before you can see the man of God for prayer.
It is easy to call those ones out because the commercialization is crude and right in your face.
So when I wrote a short text yesterday about church exploitation, it was NOT even about Deeper Life, somebody quickly commented, "At least Deeper Life doesn't do all that! They frown at it!"
Na why I dey write this post so!
...because that is exactly where the deception lies.
Just because Pa Kumuyi isn't street-hawking miracle water at the altar doesn't mean your pocket and bank account isn't being cleared out.
One method is tacky and obviously looking like scam; but the other is smooth, refined, and deeply spiritualized, well wrapped in "holiness" and piety.
It is what we call "Fine Bara", in Nigerian; a highly organized, guilt-driven pipeline that strips people clean under the cover of holiness.
In Deeper Life, nobody is going to force you to buy a physical product.
You won't see anywhere that Deeper Life writes out the names of tithers, or where they print out envelopes for raising.
Instead, they use a much tighter lock, I call it the weight of spiritual authority. Only those who are not tied up by the denominationalism spirit with figure that out.
It's like giving someone a false hope that they need to invest or contribute heavily because they think they have a stake in the company, but they have nothing.
Only Pa Kumuyi and his family own Deeper Life.
...if a pastor in Deeper Life reads Malachi 3:10 for you ehn, you will be almost pissing in your body. You will almost bring out all your monies.
They use the unshakeable influence of Pastor Kumuyi, the heavy authority of "Thus says the Lord," and the fear that missing a single payment means you are standing in rebellion against God.
While I was in Deeper Life, I hear people say they want to borrow from their TITHE and they pay back later. Some cannot even touch their tithe if there is a dire need.
You are taught that absolute faithfulness in tithes, regular offerings, and endless special pledges isn't just good giving; it's a prerequisite for making heaven.
I listened to a Message from Pa Kumuyi around 2016, 2017; when he preached on the topic; "THE PASSPORT TO HEAVEN"... and in a vertical form like he loves to do; as a very diplomatic teacher, lying in wait to deceive.
He mentioned some characters you must possess; P-Purity, A, S, S, and so on until the last T. Which he said TITHE.
I sat there in shock. Like, Baba just said without Tithe, you can't make heaven.
So people give until it hurts, genuinely believing their salvation is tied to their sacrifice.
But look closely at where that money actually goes, and you'll see the real game being played.
Every single Sunday, local branches across the country gather tithes and major offerings and send them straight up to headquarters. Hundreds of thousands of naira leave poor, struggling every week, flowing in a one-way pipe to the top.
...and what comes back down to help those local assemblies?
Nothing!
The headquarters takes the bulk, but when it comes to keeping the local branch alive, the burden falls right back on the same congregation that was just drained.
Who pays the rent for the venue?
The local members.
Who buys the plastic chairs, fuels the generator, and buys the speakers?
The local members.
If the roof is leaking or the landlord is threatening eviction, headquarters isn't sending a dime to fix it.
The pastor will simply stand up, quote another scripture, and tell the members to dig deeper into their pockets for a special local project levy.
What a shame!
That's why, when I write Deeper Life members frown; because they don't want you to see their secret.
As I speak to you, there are Deeper Life branches that have remitted tens of millions of naira to headquarters over the last twenty years, yet they are still gathering in rented places or uncompleted buildings with no property of their own.
The members have financed the central headquarters in Gbagada while remaining homeless in their own local worshipping space.
...they are so manipulated ehn, and let them just hear that GS is coming to their state, they can even go and borrow to contribute to give Pa Kumuyi comfort in their state while they are hungry.
So, how is selling a two-thousand-naira bottle of oil any worse than this?

...and any Deeper Life member coming out, will speak in defence of Pa Kumuyi, the one milking them with bible and Holiness; I wonder whose punishment will be more in eternity.
The mechanism might look cleaner on the surface, but the result is identical: ordinary, hardworking people are kept financially drained while the institution gets richer and bigger.
From your money they built a system that built other systems like the Deeper Life High School and Anchor University, but your children can't even enrol, it's wealthy parents that are not even Deeper Life members that are beneficial of what pepper and onion sellers gathered money to build.
I ask again, who has the greater condemnation. Defend him all you like, but the Truth remains the Truth.
...so stop assuming a church is clean just because they preach "holiness" and they don't sell handkerchiefs at the altar.
Sometimes, the most dangerous extortion isn't the one sold in a bottle; it's the one handed to you in a hymn book with a gentle smile and a quote from Malachi.
...but I pray that;
God will open your eyes!
