Nigerian President Tinubu Skips the UN General Assembly for 2nd Year in a Row 

NIGERIA'S VP SPOKE AT THE UN BUT THE PRESIDENT IS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND

Vice President Kashim Shettima delivered Nigeria's address at the UN General Assembly this week.

He spoke well. He called for reform of the Security Council. He demanded a permanent seat for Africa. He urged a ceasefire in Gaza. He called for dialogue in Sudan. He spoke about the climate crisis and the debt burden crushing the continent.

The speech was solid. The delivery was confident. The message was right.

But words at the UN mean nothing when the president is absent.

Bola Tinubu skipped the UN General Assembly for the second year in a row.

In 2025, he sent Shettima. In 2026, he did it again.

Nigeria is Africa's most populous country. Its largest economy. A non-permanent member of the Security Council. A nation that wants a permanent seat at the global table.

And its president cannot be bothered to show up.

Where is Tinubu. He is on holiday. He is campaigning. He is anywhere but the global stage.

The man who cannot fix roads, power, security or the economy is also the man who cannot represent Nigeria when the world is watching.

Shettima spoke about African exploitation. He condemned the West. He demanded justice.

Then he went home to a country where 600 people were kidnapped from mosques in one night. Where 37 children died in a cell and protesters were shot for asking why. Where the government borrows more than it earns and cannot implement a single budget.

The pattern is not unique to Nigeria.

President Ruto of Kenya speaks about human equality at the UN. Then he deports Burundian hawkers and calls them a threat.

President Ramaphosa of South Africa calls for accountability for Palestine. Then his police raid migrant shops and chase foreigners out of the country.

President Mahama of Ghana calls for human dignity. Then he rejects MTN's donation for xenophobia victims with a press statement.

African leaders deliver powerful speeches at the UN. They call for justice. They demand reparations. They defend Palestine.

Then they go home and do the opposite.

They silence protesters. They deport migrants. They kidnap their own citizens. They borrow money they cannot repay. They sell their minerals to foreign companies for a pittance.

The UN speech is a performance. It is for the cameras. It is not for the people who live with the consequences.

Meanwhile, Africa is being looted. Its gold goes to Dubai. Its uranium goes to France. Its oil goes to America. Its young people flee across the Mediterranean.

African leaders speak about exploitation. Then they sign the deals that enable it.

Tinubu cannot even show up. He is absent when Africa speaks. He is absent when Africa is exploited. He is absent when Nigeria needs a seat at the table.

What happens when the leaders who give the most powerful speeches at the UN are the same ones who deliver the most painful failures at home.
