A HONEYMOON THAT ENDED IN TRAGEDY  

This is not the kind of story I enjoy sharing, but I believe people deserve to be informed about what they may be walking into when they travel to unfamiliar countries.

Reports circulating online claim that two Bangladeshi nationals, identified as Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siri Akhtar, were executed in Saudi Arabia after allegedly being convicted of an immoral sexual act inside a mosque in Mecca.

According to the circulating account, the couple were newlyweds who had travelled to Mecca for their honeymoon. The alleged offence? A kiss on the forehead, reportedly an expression of gratitude to Allah by the husband for blessing him with a beautiful bride.

The account further claims that Saudi authorities refused to accept their assertion that they were legally married.

Perhaps the most heartbreaking detail is the claim that their remains were subsequently returned to Bangladesh in two separate coffins for burial.

One of the worst things to happen to humanity is the nonsense called religion when it becomes an instrument of oppression, intolerance and the dehumanisation of fellow human beings. What should inspire compassion, love and understanding can, in the hands of those who wield it as a weapon, become a justification for cruelty and suffering.

No belief system should be used to strip people of their dignity or turn human existence into a theatre of fear and punishment. Humanity must always come before dogma, and compassion must never be sacrificed at the altar of religious rigidity.

This  is not a pleasant story to share, but awareness matters. When travelling abroad, understand the laws, religious sensitivities and cultural expectations of your destination.

Travel informed. Question intolerance. Put humanity before dogma.

"The couple were newlyweds who went to Mecca for their honeymoon. As per say, as a Muslim couple, there cannot be a better place for their honeymoon than the headquarters of Islam, abi?

Reports claim they were executed because the husband kissed his wife's forehead on a mosque veranda.

They were executed on the 14th of October, 2026".
