Warning! Stop Inciting Religious Crisis: That video is Deliverance and Not Killing for Converting to Christianity: SOME OF YOU ARE PLAYING WITH FIRE IN THE NAME OF CONTENT CREATION - Hulda Nuhu
SOME OF YOU ARE PLAYING WITH FIRE IN THE NAME OF CONTENT CREATION - Hulda Nuhu
Religion is one of the most sensitive issues in Nigeria. So why would anyone deliberately cook up a story to make one religion look evil just to trend on social media?
There is a video of a girl currently trending on this app. The English voice-over claims that Muslims have ordered her to be killed simply because she converted from Islam to Christianity.
HOW DID YOU ARRIVE AT THAT CONCLUSION? WHO VERIFIED THAT STORY?
The actual conversation in the video is in Hausa. What is happening appears to be a deliverance session, where a malam is praying over a girl believed to be possessed by a jinn.
Those of us who grew up in Northern Nigeria understand this practice. Even during our secondary school days, we witnessed situations where imams or Amiras were invited to pray over girls believed to be possessed by spirits. You can even hear the malam questioning the supposed spirit in the video.
Whether you believe in jinn, deliverance, or any of these spiritual practices is a different conversation entirely. But how do you jump from a deliverance session to claiming that Muslims want to kill a girl for converting to Christianity?
Do you people understand the danger of what you are doing?
Nigeria is already struggling with religious tensions. Christians and Muslims are constantly being given reasons to distrust one another. Some of us are working hard to build bridges, promote peaceful coexistence, and remind people that humanity should come before religion.
Yet, some people are busy manufacturing narratives that could destroy the very peace we are trying to build.
Today, someone fabricates a story against Muslims. Tomorrow, someone else invents a story against Christians. Before you know it, innocent people are fighting, hating, and threatening one another over information that was never verified.
ALL BECAUSE SOMEBODY WANTS TO GO VIRAL!
What happens if the people being falsely accused decide to pursue legal action? Who will take responsibility for the damage already done? Will you be bold enough to defend the story you are spreading?
I sincerely hope the person responsible for this misleading narrative is held accountable if the facts establish wrongdoing. People must learn that social media influence comes with responsibility.
You cannot keep throwing religious accusations into an already sensitive society and expect there to be no consequences.
VIRALITY IS NOT WORTH THE PRICE OF NATIONAL DISUNITY!
To my fellow Nigerians, whether you are Christian or Muslim, please learn to verify information before sharing it. Stop allowing people who profit from outrage to use your faith as a weapon against your fellow citizens.
We cannot keep talking about unity while deliberately spreading stories designed to turn us against one another.
ENOUGH OF THE RELIGIOUS PROPAGANDA. ENOUGH OF THE FABRICATED STORIES. LET US LEARN TO LIVE TOGETHER!
Our country needs healing, not more people manufacturing wounds for engagement.
