Two weeks before my husband died, I went to church for counseling over my pregnancy. My pastor did not pray for me. He looked at me and said, "Where is your husband? Tell him to come NOW." I begged my husband every day. He never went.
I WENT TO CHURCH BECAUSE OF MY PREGNANCY. MY PASTOR SAID, "WHERE IS YOUR HUSBAND? TELL HIM TO COME IMMEDIATELY."
My late husband was a good man. But he did not pay much attention to spiritual matters.
Two weeks before he passed away, I went to church for counseling. Not because of him. I went because I was having some issues with the pregnancy I was carrying.
I wanted my pastor to pray for me.
The moment I walked into his office, he did not even ask about my pregnancy.
The first thing he said was, "Where is your husband? Tell him to come and see me immediately."
I was surprised. I told him I came because of my own burden.
He looked at me again and said, "My daughter, go home and tell your husband to come to church to see me immediately. Don't waste time."
I went home and told my husband what my pastor said.
I begged him that evening. I begged him the next morning. Every single day for two weeks, I begged him.
"Honey, please, my pastor said you should come to church to see him. Let's go together."
He kept saying, "I am busy at work. I will go. Tomorrow I will go."
That tomorrow never came. He never went to church to see my pastor.
Then he fell sick. So suddenly.
With fear in my heart, I ran and called my pastor and told him, "Sir, my husband is now sick."
There was a long silence on the phone. Then my pastor said something that broke me into pieces.
He said, "My daughter... it is already too late."
My husband passed away before he ever got the chance to go to church to see him.
Till today, every time that memory flashes into my mind, I just wish he listened.
What if he had gone when I begged him? What if he had followed me to church that first day? What if that "I will go tomorrow" had been "Let's go today"?
I May
